There is no job that does not convey some business skills. Even though my career is primarily within the Oil & Gas Industry, I have still developed sound business skills. I am easy to talk to and very personable, which allows me to quickly establish a report with a customer, client, or coworker. This attribute directly associates to my customer service skills. Some of the Qualifications that I have earned throughout my education include:
Sales – I have learned to become a salesman through aspects of the work that I have performed. From actual sales tasks to generating report with a client, and ensuring customer satisfaction with producing consistently accurate, and high quality work.
Customer Service – My skills in customer service are a direct result of talking with clients on the business end of sales. From the oil field, and beyond, I have learned to follow up with clients and customers to ensure that they are happy with the solution that I have provided. I have no delusions that the customer is the key to the success of the business.
Quality Assurance – The goal of any business is to make money. Making money through sales is optimal, but saving money through due diligence and attention to detail is a close second, because no business wants to waste money. As a Field Geologist Intern at SandRidge Energy, I noticed that a well was setting up to run casing. I didn't remember an Electronic Log sweep being performed on that well. During my summer in the field, running E-Logs after completion was standard operating procedure. I decided to push the position to the point of calling the geologist, at home, to make absolutely sure that I was wrong and that the Company Man was right to run casing. It turned out that I was correct, and I saved the company more than $1 Million dollars by catching a small, yet costly, oversight.
I have been utilizing MS Office applications for over 15 years. I have utilized Windows based PCs for Data management through spreadsheets, and technical reports in Word. Used MS DOS to download data from uplinked satellites, massaged raw data into a database and analyzed data using a sophisticated visualization program. These qualifications I feel are universal.
