GIS Applications

The GIS project that I completed in order to receive a minor in Geography with a concentration in GIS applications was presented as a poster for a symposium in GIS applications. The importance of GIS in our modern society is immense, but relatively unknown. There are countless groups and professional societies that have formed in the last 20 years that promote GIS education and advancement of technology and methods.

Before I could start my undergraduate project, I had to learn how to use ESRI ArcGIS software, and how to manipulate data and metadata, in order to produce a visual representation of geospatial data. To put it in layman's terms, I had to learn how to log points in the field, differentially correct that data to make sure that my data was on the right part of the globe, and then create a geographically accurate map from those points.
Below are maps that I created and manipulated during my GIS course. Learning these skills helped me to complete my Senior GIS Project.
